A bride marrying today may look ahead to a time when she might renew or reaffirm her vows. Remember that certain fabrics and finishes – no matter how well they are preserved – can never look as beautiful as they did on your wedding day. Your dress and veil should be cared for by a professional dry cleaner immediately after your wedding. Point out any beverages spilled on the dress – they may be invisible at first but can stain later. Any protective shield or bra inserts should be removed and discarded. Once processed, your dress is wrapped in tissue paper (to protect against any hard creases and to puff up the sleeves and bodice), then packed in a box with a clear plastic window inset. That box is wrapped in plastic (to guard against inadvertent moisture), then placed in a brown box. Store your gown in cool, dry place (your attic would be too hot; your basement, too damp). After a year, and occasionally after that, take it out, inspect for any slow-to-emerge stains (return to the dry cleaner if you find any), and enjoy the happy memories. Rewrap just as carefully as before when you put it away again.
What most may not know about preserving your dress!
